Just got word that Jimmy Sawyer passed away today. Many of you won't know about Jimmy. He was truly a pioneer. He was one of the original two or three people who went to the promoters of Cumberland Speedway to ask if they could race their stock cars during intermission of the motorcycle races back in 1948. When the cars went to asphalt at the Fairgrounds, Jimmy retired. But when they ran on dirt, he was one of the front runners, week in and week out. Jimmy stands beside what may be his first race car at Cumberland Speedway in the late 1940's.
