Joe Buford - 1998 Nashville Speedway USA Champion
Joe’s first ever championship. Buford won the Heartland Region championship of the Winston Racing Series, becoming the second consecutive driver to win that title. Joe joins his father, James “Flookie” Buford as only the second father-son combination to win the coveted Nashville Speedway premier division championship in the speedway’s 40 year history. The Bufords etch their names in the record books alongside Coo Coo and Sterling Marlin. Buford won nine features, one pole, 14 top 5’s, 16 top 10’s in 22 starts.
Joe Buford - 1999 Nashville Speedway USA Champion
Buford won a personal best 10 races in the 1999 season on his way to his second consecutive NASCAR Late Model Stock Car title. In winning his second consecutive championship, Joe equaled father Flookie’s record of back-to-back titles. Buford clinched the championship with two point’s races remaining in the season. Buford won ten features, four poles, 12 top 5’s, 15 top 10’s in 20 starts.
Joe Buford - 2000 Nashville Speedway USA Champion
Buford becomes only the second driver in Nashville Speedway history to win three consectuive championships, joining Sterling Marlin (1980, 1981 & 1982). Buford also finished second as the NASCAR Heartland Region runner-up in 2000. He becomes the fourth driver to win three or more championships joining Andy Kirby (1994, 1996 & 1997) and Coo Coo Marlin with four (1959, 1963, 1965 & 1966). In 19 starts Joe won seven races, one pole, 13 top 5’s, 15 top 10’s. Buford won the final points race of the season on September 30th beating out Roy Binkley by 50 points.
